FOR NO ONE

This was 1966 …

Few things are able to generate emotional feelings form me…this record is one of those.

Put in a corner of my ipod I have spent time listening to other stuffs looking for some inspiration for my own music. Yes, a mistake. I listened to Revolver yesterday . From the first to the last song one after the other, super greedy each time for the following one.

Experts have all said it is the best work of the band and one of the best of history so of course I’m not gonna add anything revolutionary.

But each time I’m listening to it I am simply amazed of the genius, I am simply amazed of the feelings it bring, I am simply amazed of how you can talk about love and everything that happens in life in a way so unexpected.

I like to think how it can be placed really in the middle of the Beatles music works and it is also the only album they recorded in 1966 – they used to record a couple of records every year, unthinkable today. And that cover! Graphic art! So modern, so rule-breaking. I often try to imagine how it could have been in a world so different from this one to listen to such masterpieces for the first time. It must have been so amazing to leave you more speachless than how it could be today in our world. And I also can’t help it but think that the four boys were in their 20’s when they wrote songs such as eleanor rigby, tomorrow never knows, got to get you into my life…again, pure genius.

In this record there is one song I listen to more often than the others and it is “for no one”. Of course there isn’t a rational reason why I prefer it on the others I think it is because of its simplicity, the melody at its purest level, the lyrics –  I adore Paul McCartney uses the present tense…it’s the picture of musical flawlessness for me.

Now, If only I could write something 0,1% like that…

Your day breaks, your mind aches
You find that all her words of kindness linger on
When she no longer needs you

She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn’t feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind her tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

You want her, you need her
And yet you don’t believe her when she says her love is dead
You think she needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

You stay home, she goes out
She says that long ago she knew someone but now he’s gone
She doesn’t need him

Your day breaks, your mind aches
There will be times when all the things she said will fill your head
You won’t forget her

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind her tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years
