When I went to Berlin I was so happy to have the chance to attend the David Bowie exhibition after having missed the London one. I have always been a huge David Bowie fan since when I was a teenager, his songs were among the ones I wanted to sing and to play as soon as I learned to play the guitar. It was emotional to learn about his artistic and human history – this is one of the men that contributed greatly to change history, no less. The exhibition was deeply rich with costumes (Alexander McQueen!), handwritten materials, lots of pictures and so many videos, and many photographic sessions of his albums’ covers.
David Bowie’s endless creative flow is what intrigues me the most about this amazing artist. In the last 50 years of career he experimented so many musical territories without failing. This aspect makes him so appealing to me. Once I read he said during some interview that he finds himself attracted by what’s opposite, totally different from himself. This makes him a genius and a brave man , because what’s different is always unknown, it’s difficult and scary, although in the very same time is challenging. But you must have some guts to leave the artistic field you know you’re the best at, and that gives you money and fame, to change radically every time. The artistic evolution goes hand in hand with the evolution of the man, openly with the whole world staring at, like a sort of global Big Brother. It must not be easy, for sure it is something I cannot imagine. It must have not been easy to always “convince” the world about the quality of his always different, always new, musical evolutions/performances. It must have not been easy to present yourself always in a different way, like a different and richer persona.
When I say I want to feel inspired by David Bowie I mean that I would like to make mine his ability to transform, to enrich and to revolutionize himself every time. To be curious at the highest level like a sort of professional curious. To be brave enough to absorb cultural inputs and to make those global via the most incredible and global of all means of communication: art.
I have created a Pinterest board dedicated to David Bowie pictures and costumery: apart from keep on listening to his music it’s one of my favourite way to wow at his never ending creativity.
